Sony's first Ultrabook price conscious

If you are looking for a new laptop computer shopping, you may find that the term "Ultrabook" suddenly appeared within the scope of your view. Ultrabook is thinner than an ordinary laptop, lighter, but it does not sacrifice a full keyboard and other functions, it uses a different type of memory, rather than the traditional hard drive speed and good battery life, so you can use it as your daily work, such as browsing web pages and documents the work of the host computer. After the beginning of a trend in Apple's MacBook Air, the Windows PC manufacturers such as HP, Dell and Samsung to provide them, and now Sony has joined the fight.
In the past week, I have been concerned about the Sony T13, the company's first Ultrabook makes it stand package is its low price tag. The cost of the Ultrabooks still hovering at around $ 1,000, but the VAIO T series $ 770. In contrast, the same functions as the Dell XPS 13 price of $ 999, while the 13-inch MacBook Air $ 1,199.
For the price, the VAIO T13 offers the latest Intel processors Ivy Bridge, too many ports and 4 GB of memory. In order to reduce costs, there are some tradeoffs, such as low screen resolution, but overall, I found Vaio T13 is a fast machine. This is a good value is yes, but there are also some disadvantages, such as lower than the standard keyboard and a loud fan has excellent.
VAIO T13 measures 12.7 inches wide, 0.71 inches thick and weighs 3.54 pounds, so it's on the market ultrabooks number of proportion. For example, the Dell XPS 13 is 2.99 lbs MacBook Air weighs 2.96 pounds. Say, I did not find the extra weight is a huge problem. I was able to carry it around without it weighing me in my backpack.
In addition, although it is thicker than air, I very much appreciate the Vaio is available on the port selection. This includes an Ethernet interface, two USB ports, HDMI and VGA interface, if you want to connect to a TV or monitor, Memory Stick Pro Duo processor / SD card slot.
VAIO T has a 13.3 inches screen with 1,366 × 768 pixels resolution. The colors look a bit dull, pictures and videos are not too bright or sharp. Lower resolution also means that you have to scroll a little more to see what the screen, but you get a decent size of the touch pad supports multi-touch gestures, to help you navigate between pages and tasks switch. It in my test, and four fingers on the touchpad that I was able to return to the desktop card swipe with three fingers to the left or move to the right pages and photos.
But I do not like the Ultrabook the keyboard. There are a lot of the spacing between the buttons, so it does not feel cramped. Button stiff, sticky, so I really have a punch in the keys. This matter, I am used to after a period of time, but it led to a lot of mistakes and frustration. I would also like typing keyboard backlight in a dark room.
$ 799 Vaio T13 review by the Intel Core i5 processors, and has a combined 500GB hard drives and 32GB solid state hard drive. (Faster the Ultrabooks number of the i7 processor and up to 8GB of memory configuration ultrabook) with solid state drives - flash memory - to improve speed and battery life, but it limits the storage capacity. They are also more expensive, which is why Sony uses this hybrid option.
Even so, I found Vaio T13 is a responsible computer, you will get the bonus of additional storage capacity. The Ultrabook 29 seconds to boot from a cold start and seven seconds, wakes up from sleep mode. MacBook Air start within 15 seconds, wake up within five seconds, so is not much difference between the latter test.
Time, I have at least a dozen labels, to open in my web browser, YouTube video streaming and download the album, playing online store Word documents from Google. The VAIO T13 is able to handle all these tasks, and has not slowed down. However, its fans and often makes a lot of noise. It's annoying, but I think it is doing its job, because in Ultrabook never without enthusiasm, even when I watch the television program on Hulu.
Sony Vaio T13 battery life is estimated that about 7 hours, 30 minutes, power-saving mode. In my tests, I turned off all power-saving function and the left side of the Wi-Fi, full brightness display settings, loop music player, while running in the background e-mail application Vaio battery life of 4 hours and 20 minutes.
The battery performance is compared to some other Ultrabooks We tested the Dell XPS 13 the AllThingsD road is the worst four hours Lenovo IdeaPad U300s the best in five hours. As more and more normal use, I hope you should get extra per hour from the VAIO T13 battery life.
The Vaio running Windows 7 comes pre-installed Microsoft Office 2010, it provides a simplified version of the basic versions of Word and Excel, and Kaspersky Internet Security 30 day trial version. Sony a variety of applications, such as unlimited music shops and PlayMemories multimedia gallery - all these you can be accessed at the top of the desktop screen drop-down menu.
For those on a budget, the Sony T13, of course, is a factor worth considering. It is fast and provides a good amount of storage. However, if possible, I will certainly recommend to enter a store and tried the keyboard to see if it is to your liking.
